The Tortoise is a low-profile visual anchor handcrafted using the non-industrial Cire Perdue (lost-wax casting) method, a 4,000-year-old metalworking legacy.
This piece is a masterful showcase of ancestral wire-layering techniques. The rounded shell of the turtle is defined by a dense, rhythmic sequence of hand-coiled brass spirals that flow outward from a prominent, sunburst-like central medallion. Framing the perimeter of the shell is a beautifully twisted braid design, flanked by a series of precise, delicate, ridged hatchings. Because each individual sculpture is born from a single clay mould that must be broken to reveal the cooled brass, your tortoise carries its own entirely unique thumbprints of craftsmanship.
The Styling Ritual: With its compact 3 x 4 x 2-inch proportions, this sculpture carries an unexpected, satisfying physical weight for its scale. It serves as a beautiful grounding element when styled flat on a stack of linen-bound art books, nestled next to a raw concrete incense holder, or placed on a floating bathroom vanity to catch soft daylight.
Every artefact in our Dhokra Art Series is individually cast by hand, celebrating artisanal integrity over mass production. Please allow 45 to 60 days for your pair to be masterfully cast, finished, and shipped to your space.
