An Heirloom Preserved Dhokra art is crafted from solid brass alloy using a 4,000-year-old lost-wax casting technique. The deep, dark crevices and warm metallic highlights are entirely intentional, created during the artisanal firing process. Because these pieces are unlacquered to maintain their authentic, raw texture, they will naturally evolve and age beautifully over time.
Follow these simple guidelines to maintain the timeless presence of your sculpture:
Daily Maintenance
Dry Dusting Only: Use a soft, clean, dry microfiber cloth or a soft-bristled brush (like a clean makeup brush) to gently remove dust from the intricate, hand-coiled grooves and crevices.
Avoid Moisture: Keep your Dhokra sculpture away from high-humidity areas, water, or damp environments (such as bathrooms). Moisture can accelerate natural oxidation and alter the intentional dark detailing.
What to Avoid
No Harsh Chemicals: Never use industrial brass cleaners, chemical polishing agents, solvents, or abrasive detergents. These will permanently strip away the antiqued dark patina hidden within the fine line work.
No Rough Scrubbing: Avoid using steel wool, wire brushes, or coarse scrubbing pads, which can scratch the metallic surface and blur the artisan's hand-carved textures.
The Renewal Ritual (Optional)
If you wish to gently refresh the subtle metallic lustre of your piece after months of display:
Apply a tiny, pea-sized drop of natural mineral oil, coconut oil, or mustard oil to a soft cotton cloth.
Lightly buff the raised highlights of the brass, allowing the oil to catch the light on the surface contours.
Take a clean section of the cloth to wipe away any excess oil. This creates a fine protective barrier and deepens the warm, rich tones of the metal.
