Given the entirely handmade and bespoke nature of all Forty Eight products, our cancellation and refund policy is necessarily structured to reflect the investment of artisan time, raw materials, and creative effort that commences immediately upon order confirmation.
1. Cancellation Policy
1.1 Ready-to-Ship / Available Items
Orders for in-stock, ready-to-ship products may be cancelled within 24 hours of order placement for a full refund. Cancellations requested after this 24-hour window cannot be accepted, as the product will have entered the packing and dispatch process.
1.2 Customised / Pre-Order Items
Customised and Pre-Order items cannot be cancelled once confirmed, regardless of the time elapsed since order placement. This is because:
1.2.1 For Candles and Resin Art, production typically commences within 24–48 hours of order confirmation.
1.2.2 For Hand-Knotted Rugs and Hand-Tufted Rugs, yarn dyeing and loom preparation begin immediately, with artisan schedules committed.
1.2.3 For Dhokra Art, raw brass sourcing and model preparation at the tribal craft centre in Chhattisgarh commence upon order confirmation.
We strongly encourage all customers to review their customisation specifications thoroughly before completing payment.
2. Refund Policy
2.1 General Principle
As every Forty Eight product is handmade to the individual customer's specifications, we do not offer refunds or exchanges on the basis of change of preference, change of mind, or dissatisfaction with the inherent natural variations that are characteristic of handmade goods.
2.2 Defective or Incorrect Items
In the event that you receive a product that is materially defective due to a manufacturing error or that does not match the order specification confirmed at the time of purchase, you are entitled to a replacement at no additional cost. The following conditions apply:
2.2.1 The defect or discrepancy must be reported to us at support@fortyeight.co.in within 48 hours of delivery.
2.2.2 A valid unboxing video (as described in Section 5 of the Shipping Policy) must be submitted as proof.
2.2.3 Photographs clearly documenting the defect must be provided alongside the unboxing video.
2.2.4 Upon verification of the claim, we will arrange for the collection of the defective product (at our cost) and dispatch of a replacement within the applicable production timeline for that product category.
2.3 Refund in Lieu of Replacement: If a replacement is not feasible (e.g., the artisan or material is no longer available), Forty Eight will issue a full refund of the purchase price to the original payment method within 10 working days of claim approval.
2.4 Refund for Cancelled Orders (Ready-to-Ship Only)
Refunds for eligible cancellations (per Section 1.1 above) will be processed to the original payment method within 7–10 working days of cancellation confirmation.
3. Non-Refundable Circumstances
For the avoidance of doubt, refunds or returns will not be accepted in the following circumstances:
3.1 Dissatisfaction arising from natural variations in colour, texture, or finish inherent to handmade production.
3.2 Products damaged due to improper use, mishandling, or negligence by the customer after delivery.
3.3 Claims made after the 48-hour post-delivery window.
3.4 Claims for Customised or Pre-Order items on the basis of change of preference.
3.5 Claims made without the required unboxing video for fragile items.
